What is Lipodissolve? Lipodissolve is a revolutionary new procedure used to melt fat. The treatment consists of microinjections to induce fat lysis of the body. Lipodissolve is a trademarked name that has gained popularity in the public and media and refers to an injection procedure of a mixture of phosphatidylcholine and sodium deoxycholate directly into the subcutaneous fat, to induce lipolysis (fat cell breakdown), thereby reducing specific areas of unwanted body fat. This procedure is also known as body contouring. Lipodissolve is for patients with a BMI less than 30. This procedure is not for obesity. The patient must be able to follow a high protein/low fat diet. Lipodissolve is not a substitute for diet and exercise and should not be considered as a weight loss alternative.
What can I expect the day of treatment? On the day of treatment, we will conduct a thorough assessment at which time you will be educated about the risks and benefits. A photograph will be taken of the treatment area before the procedure begins. Most patients report a slight pinch or stinging sensation when the needle is injected. The procedure is not painful but is a bit uncomfortable. Most patients have an itching sensation almost immediately following the procedure followed by a tingling/ burning sensation. When the procedure is over you may feel like you have a sunburn to the treated area. There is no downtime and you should be able to resume your normal activities immediately after treatment. However, people who have to lift heavy objects, or who work jobs that require a lot of physical activity may feel some soreness and have a limited range of movement for 1-2 days depending on the treated area.
When will I begin to see results and what kind of results should I expect? You will begin to feel the treatment working immediately following the procedure. The treated area begins to swell and feel hot to the touch. This is a normal reaction, which indicates that the fat cells are breaking down. Over the next few days, you will experience some discomfort, swelling, bruising, and achiness. After the initial period of swelling you may begin to see results. You may require more than one treatment depending on your desired results. Treatments are done 4 weeks apart with a maximum of 6 treatments per year. Lipodissolve helps you reduce local fat and helps you lose inches. Most people report that their clothes fit better. Fat is an extremely light substance, so you will not see much change in weight. Lipodissolve works for approximately 8 out of 10 individuals, which is an extremely high success rate. Some people simply do not respond to the treatment. It is impossible to predict who will and will not respond.
What do I need to do to prepare for the procedure? Do not take any Aspirin, Motrin, Exedra, Advil, etc for at least one week prior to the procedure. Avoid Willow Bark, Gingko Biloba, Vit-E, and any other anti inflammatory or anti-histamine. You may take Arnica Gel caps 3 days prior to treatment to help minimize bruising. The day of the procedure eat a light, high protein meal atleast 2-4 hours prior to your appointment. Wash the area that will be treated with an antibacterial soap and shave any needed areas. Do not use lotions, creams, etc. before your treatment.
How long will it last? Lipodissolve is similar to liposuction in that it will help get rid of unwanted fat. How long it lasts depends on how well you take care of yourself after the procedure. If you do not maintain a healthy lifestyle, it will not last long. If you eat healthy, diet, and exercise, you should be able to maintain the results much longer.
Who qualifies for the procedure? Lipodissolve is an excellent procedure for healthy people who are slightly above their normal body weight and have problem fatty areas that can be pinched between their thumb and forefinger. However, this procedure is not for people with obesity or with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, any type of active cancers, liver disease, renal disease, HIV, cardiac disease (pts on anticoagulants), lupus, etc. It is important to remember that although there have been well over 50,000 procedures completed to date with no major complications, as with any medical procedure, complications can arise. If complications arise they have usually been associated with allergic reactions or complications associated with other diseases and health problems.
