Dermaplaning is a skin care treatment that removes dead skin cells and vellus hair, aka peach fuzz. An aesthetician uses a small, sterile blade while holding the skin taut, swiping the blade in gentle upward motions.Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with acneic skin. If you have deep cystic acne, wait until breakouts are clear before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the risk of harsh chemicals absorbing into the blood stream.

Q & A
How is Dermaplaning performed?
Following proper cleansing, the dead skin cells are removed by a light scraping of the skin’s surface with a sterile #10 surgical blade securely attached to a scapel handle. The blade is held against the skin at a 45 degree angle and stroked along the skin while holding the treated area taut. Dermaplaning should not hurt; in fact, most clients find it a relaxing sensation.
Will the hairs on my face grow back thicker?
NO! It is physiologically impossible for vellous hairs to grow back thicker. If you view the science behind this, we are only removing the hairs at the level of skin, which does not affect the root ball, like waxing, chemical depilatories and tweezing can. The hairs will have a blunt rather than a tapered end, but since vellous hairs are soft your face will not feel stubbly.
How often can I have a Dermaplaning Treatment?
It can be performed approximately every four weeks. I would not recommend treating your skin with this type of physical exfoliation any more often than that.
Can Dermaplaning be combined with a Chemical Peel?
Absolutely! A properly selected chemical peel applied following dermaplaning penetrates the skin evenly and enhances cellular turnover and rejuvenation. You will likely experience superficial flakiness for a few days following this combination treatment. Another alternative adjunct is the application of a professional antioxidant masque. Extractions of blackheads, whiteheads and milia can also be performed during either of these higher level clinical facial treatments.
