Laser Spider Vein Removal

Cynosure Elite+ Laser Therapy is used to fade, reduce, or eliminate telangiectasia (spider veins) which are small superficial vessels of the skin visible to the human eye, measuring 0.1-3 mm in diameter.

  • Treatment with the Elite+ laser is used to fade, reduce or eliminate veins.
  • Elite+ laser is not a cure for vein disease.  Telangiectasia is generally progressive; however, certain individuals may experience spontaneous stabilization of the condition in early stages.  Treatment of early stage disease may prevent the progression and cause regression of the underlying disease process.
  • Multiple treatments at 3-4 week intervals are often necessary (amount of treatment needed will be determined by each individuals response to therapy).
  • This treatment is for skin types I-IV, please review chart below to identify your skin type:
Skin Type                  Skin Color Characteristics
I White, very fair skin; red or blonde hair; blue-green eyes; freckles Always burns, never tans
II White, fair skin; red, blonde and dark blonde hair; blue, hazel or green eyes Usually burns, tans with difficulty
III White to light brown skin; brown eyes and brown hair Sometimes mild burn, average tanning
IV Moderate brown skin; typical Mediterranean Caucasian skin; brown-black hair color; brown or black eye color. Rarely burns, tans with ease
V Dark brown skin; black hair; mid-eastern skin types; dark eye color very rarely burns, tans very easily
VI Black skin; black hair and dark eye color Never burns, tans very easily

  • Patients often describe the feeling of laser to be like a rubber band.  A cooling device and topical anesthetic are used to alleviate discomfort.
  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, tanning creams and sunless tanning lotions for 3-7 days prior to treatment and throughout the course of laser treatment.
  • Apply broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen SPF 30 or greater to the area(s) to be treated whenever sun exposure is possible.
  • On the day of treatment, thoroughly clean the area to be treated of any make-up, creams and lotions.

After Treatment:

  • Immediately after treatment, the area may appear flushed and warm.
  • Apply ointment to the area post treatment to prevent drying and crusting.  Ointment can have a soothing effect.  If a crust develops, allow it to fall off naturally.  Do not scratch or pick.
  • Avoid hot baths/whirlpools for one week following treatment.
  • Do not shave 1-3 days if blistering and/or crusting occurs.
  • Avoid exercises that can cause vasodilation for one week post treatment.  Walking is encouraged.
  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, tanning creams and sunless tanning lotions throughout the course of laser treatment.
  • Apply broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen SPF 30 or greater to the area(s) to be treated whenever sun exposure is possible.
